#runandtalk - starting this Sun 13th Nov

We are pleased to post information regarding a new local initiative #runandtalk led by Mental Health Ambassador Louise Goddard starting this Sunday 13th Nov at Williamsons Park Cafe 3pm. It's completely FREE!!

Did you know exercise is good for your mind as well as your body? There is already lots, but increasing amounts of research out there, a quick google search will lead you into the depths of the internet discovering scientific studies and evidence based research proving this. Exercise is one of the most effective ways to improve your mental health. Regular exercise can have a profoundly positive impact alleviating depression, anxiety, ADHD, and more. It also relieves stress, improves memory, helps you sleep better, and boosts overall mood.

Not only would this be great way to start led by an experienced running coach promoting an inclusive group welcoming all abilities Louise also has a range of qualifications and experience working with people struggling with their mental health so you can rest assured you are in good hands where a safe environment is to be promoted and assured.

Getting out doors is a great way to channel some positive energy too especially this time of year as Autumn is upon us. Not only is Louise encouraging people to start running and engaging with exercise but this is a great opportunity to meet people and gain some support in a friendly, informal way. Why not give it a go?

Ask your support worker for more information or contact Louise on louise_265@hotmail.com or 07900 011 164

A few words from Louise:

'I am trying to encourage people; regardless of age or ability, to become part of Lancaster's running community; particularly focused on people who have experienced, or are working through, mental health issues, not just service users but all community members. I am trying to motivate more people to run/walk/jog and talk via my 'Couch to Parkrun' plan, eventually becoming self-regulating groups; where they meet up themselves on a regular basis and offer each other support. I am qualified running coach and an experienced local athlete, although I didn't start running until I was 35 and; I am currently on Team GB for Duathlon (age-group). All of my Safeguarding and security checks are up to date and I continue to attend courses on counselling, working with people with anxiety and depression to constantly upgrade my approach.

Not everyone wants to join a club or feel themselves to be athletes, maybe they lack confidence or are focusing on one event per year and don't want to subscribe to a generic training plan or membership. I do also offer small group or solo training with the emphasis on base fitness, technique, drills, speed work, nutrition (including diet analysis and support) and pro-active rehabilitation. Basically, I offer tools for a full and active, healthy lifestyle and mobility. Support and advice are all part of the service, as are links to local events & networks aimed at keeping people fit and happy.'
