Poetry Group

We are most delighted to welcome local poet Steven to the team where he will be volunteering every other group in starting up a poetry group with staff member Ruth. This is a friendly and relaxed group where you will have the chance to learn about different styles of poetry, create your own and share creations and ideas in a supportive environment.

Come and give it a go and try something new or share existing writings. The group is suitable and welcoming of all levels of ability.

We are very glad to share here a poem by Steven.....

People can change.

Rely on yourself to make that change.

Only you can change your life.

Understand though, you can ask for help.

Do you have what it takes to be proud?

Round the world, people vary for many reasons, so just show respect!

Even if you are different, don’t be something you’re not. Everyone should stand up tall.

Some people will knock you down, but with help, we can all stand back tall again.

People make mistakes every day, it’s how we learn from them that make us who we are.

Every day think about those around you. Show respect and you’ll be my new best friend.

Can’t say people will always respect you, but close the door to them and open new doors.

Too much goes on in life to not show respect, so understand we are all unique. Just take respect and give it back.

Inside us all is the desire to keep on going.

Never knowing which path to take. Just follow the way the river flows.

See beyond yourself. Try to look further, even if it means that one step more.

People will inspire you along the way, but you make final decisions every day.

I look at the opportunities around and take them by both hands.

Remember, you are never far away from your dreams if you think positively.

Everyone can do things in life, so do it and see if you can inspire others.

Needs are often overlooked by us all.

Everyone has needs in their own way, so don’t be afraid to let people know when you’re in need.

Everyone is afraid to need, but today I want to say no! I’m not afraid and neither should you be.

Don’t let people knock you back, but sometimes it’s those that knock us down, that need the most.

So be open with people and today could be the day someone gives you help with whatever you need.

Care for each other every day.

Always try to help people when you can, even if it means going out of your way.

Reach out to those in need of a little extra care, because one day, you’ll need care too.

Each day you care for someone is a day full of happiness for those you cared for.

Encourage yourself to try new things.

Not everyone is capable of doing everything, but will have a go.

Courage is an honour and standing tall with courage inside is a great achievement.

Only sometimes we need encouragement ourselves.

Understand that things take time.

Rarely do we get courage to stand above and reach high, so take risks.

Anybody can be courageous.

Go on and take a challenge of life experiences.

Everyone can challenge life, but nobody can challenge courage.

Speak openly with how you need to.

People will listen to you if given time and effort.

Everyone should have freedom of speech in life.

Always get your point across for people to understand you.

Keep your voice heard so people can understand you and they can speak back to you.

Trust is a precious thing and is earned.

Respect everyone in their own life and you can earn somebody’s trust.

Under no circumstances should you mess with someone’s trust.

So show people they can trust you, and maybe they will trust you.

Trust is delicate, remember that.

Rely on those around you, it isn’t wrong to lean on people for support.

Every time you rely on someone is a chance to learn. Don’t take advantage though, never pressure too much.

Learning is an everyday thing, nobody is perfect, but don’t let others rely on you, so they can learn too.

You’re not alone!

Unique people are the best.

Never been someone you aren’t.

I believe people should be who they want to be.

Questions may arise on who you are, so show the world.

Understand that we are all different.

Each person in life has their own personality. We are all unique!

So look at yourself, and believe in yourself.

Trust that you can do things if you put your mind to it.

And make your name one that will be remembered for life.

Really give everything a go at least once.

Stars can be made out of all of us!

To believe in yourself, be around people who believe in you too.

All of you are amazing in your own way.

Look at yourself in a mirror and smile, because it only takes one smile to make your day, even your own.

Even when life gets you down, remember that we can all be given a push.

Now that is said, remember that we can all give in life, not just take.

Talent can be wasted unless you use it wisely.
